Creature Building Workshop With Jordu Schell Coming to Spirit Gallery
Sunday January 10, 2010
Hello artists and fantastic art enthusiasts!
UPDATE: This workshop is currently full. Please contact us to get on the waiting list. With luck, we will be able to offer the workshop with Jordu again in the future!
I have just confirmed with Schell Studios a creature-building workshop with Jordu Schell this coming summer from August 2 - 6th.
The workshop will run from 10-5 Monday through Friday with an hour off for lunch every day. The class involves Jordu's creature design presentation which covers the basic principles and history of creature design. He also does an ongoing demo of a full-head sculpture, which will be molded in plaster and cast in latex. He will finish that off with an airbrush painting demonstration. Students will sculpt a half mask out of WED clay which they will also mold and cast in latex. He will also provide a photoshop llustration demo.
The fee for the class is $400 per student and includes the WED clay, plaster, crystal clear, dulling spray, and slip latex provided by Spirit Gallery. Students will provide their own tools for finishing touches on their sculptures, and it is recommended that they bring a lazy susan to rotate their sculpture during the build.
Jordu Schell is a designer of film and television characters and has worked on numerous projects from entertainment to fine art. To see a full list of his film and television work, visit his page on IMDB. You may also see his work on his studio page.
This is a unique opportunity to take his creature-building workshop on the East coast. We have 27 slots open for interested participants, and are looking to meet minimum enrollment of 20 students by April 30th. All levels of sculpting experience welcome, though if you are new to sculpting we would recommend practicing with sculpee or any similar brand of clay to become familiar with the medium in the months before class.
We will be getting a block of rooms reserved with the Radisson Hotel in New London for participating students, which is about two blocks from Spirit Gallery. There are many restaurants, cafes and bars, as well as dozens of active galleries in town to visit while you are here. At the end of the class, Jordu will be kicking off a month-long exhibit at the gallery of many of his busts created throughout his career. You won't want to miss it!
If you are interested in signing up for the class, please contact Blaze at brankauti@gmail.com. Payment for the class is due in full by April 30th. If we need to cancel the class for any reason, payment will be returned in full to participating students. Cancellations up until June 30th will receive 50% refund. There will be no refunds for cancellations after July 1st.
We look forward to sharing this exciting event with you this Summer, and please pass this on to anyone you know who would like to join us for this one of a kind event!
All best,
Blaze
